Why is selection of your air filters so important? The average engine consumes about 10,000 litres of air for every litre of diesel fuel it burns. However as little as 250 grams of dirt can destroy a heavy-duty engine. A typical off-road vehicle is exposed to 1.5 to 2.5 tons of airborne dirt each year which means first-rate filtration is critical to the life of the engine. The air filters on a vehicle play an important role in protecting the engine from contaminants of all sizes – from easily visible granules of dirt and sand to microscopic soot particles – which can cause premature engine wear and failure. The media in WIX air filters have nine pleats per inch, resulting in a longer life and the ability to capture more engine-killing contaminants.
